Notification for neighbours interested in an application
We will always write to you if you live or occupy premises next to a proposed development. The letter will tell you where you can see a copy of the application and by what date you may send any written comments for the Council to consider.
When an application proposes development which would affect a wider area, we will widen the extent of notification by lettter and display a notice on or near to the application site in a prominent position.
Applications for major developments, applications for listed building consent or affecting the setting of a listed building, applications for conservation area consent or affecting the character or appearance of a conservation area, are always advertised in a local newspaper as well as by displaying a Site Notice. The Council currently uses the Chronicle for this purpose.
The Site Notices and newspaper advertisements give the same information as the letters. The Site Notices are displayed as near as possible to the proposed development site.
In addition to viewing the application at one of the Council offices, you can make an appointment with the Case Officer if you wish to have a discussion about the application.
Comments On An Application
To make comments on an application you can either write to us at the address shown below or email the development control email address also shown at the bottom of this page. Please make sure you include your contact details and full postal address so we can acknowledge your comments and place them with the case file. Please ensure you read our information on details we publish on our website before submitting comments to us. The deadline for replies is given on all letters and notices and is normally 21 days from the date of the letter or notice. If the application is amended in a way which could affect the comments you may wish to make, we will write to you again and give a further ten days for comment. All letters are acknowledged. All written comments received before a decision is made are taken into account provided that they are planning considerations.
The Consultation Charter at the bottom of the page explains the publicity process we carry out and information we supply to enable people to make comments on any of the types of application under the Town and Country Planning Acts.
Planning Committee and Request to Speak at Planning Committee
Planning Applications that are scheduled to be heard at Planning Control Committee are usually heard every 3 weeks. Read the Protocol booklet available at the bottom of the page if you wish to apply to speak expressing concerns about an application.
If you write to make comments in favour of or against an application these will be taken into consideration before a decision is made. Please note that comments made on an application can be viewed by the public, consultees etc therefore please ensure that you only include information that you are happy to be made available for public viewing. If, after making comments on an application or you are the first signatory or organiser of a petition, we will write to inform you of the decision within five working days of it being made. The letter will explain the reasons why permission has been granted and the conditions (if any) which have been imposed on the grant of permission or the reasons why permission has been refused.
