Local Plan Update
This year, the government is making major changes to the way in which local plans are produced, including the need for councils to review their plans every five years to see which policies may need updating.
Last year we consulted on Local Plan Part 2 (issues and options) and received a really good response: huge thanks to everyone who took the time to write in to us. We have been working through all of the comments and considering the issues raised: these were reported to Cabinet in August 2017. The Consultation information and summary of comments received can be read on the Local Plan (Part 2) page.
As a consequence of the changes to the national planning system however, some parts of Local Plan Part 1 (for which Part 2 delivers the fine detail) will soon be out of date. Local Plan Part 1 was adopted in 2014 and, as a result of the new regulations we will need to decide very soon which parts of the plan will need to be updated.
Rather than pressing ahead with Part 2 therefore, we are proposing to commence the production of a new Local Plan which will utilise the work to be carried out to date on Local Plan Parts 1 and 2 and incorporate any areas which need reviewing and updating.
The proposals were reported to Cabinet on 25th January 2018 and, if approved, the timetable (known as the Local Development Scheme) for the new Local Plan will then be considered for adoption by Council on 21st February 2018.
Subject to Council approval for the proposals, we will be writing to everyone who has registered on the Planning Policy consultation database to explain the next steps and how they can continue to participate. We intend to run further consultation events, where we will be asking people what issues they think the new plan should contain. Anyone can register for updates by emailing the team at firstname.lastname@example.org and progress updates will be added to the website at an appropriate time.
Please note that in registering for updates your personal information will only be used for the purposes of notifying you of Planning Policy consultation matters, will be confidential and will not be shared with anyone else. You can unsubscribe from these emails at any time by emailing the team at email@example.com
